Student Housing welcomes new director
The Department of Student Housing is excited to welcome its new director, Lionel Maten!
Maten comes to Ole Miss from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and brings with him vast experience in housing and residence life. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) and received his master’s degree from Murray State in Kentucky. After completing his graduate studies, Maten began his career in housing at UAM as a hall coordinator. He has since worked in housing and residence life at the University of Southern Mississippi, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Louisville and UTSA.
As director of housing at Ole Miss, Maten opened three new contemporary-style residence halls on campus. He has also continued the growth and success of the residence halls’ housing communities including freshman interest groups and living-learning communities. Under his direction, Student Housing is also introducing a new sophomore-year-experience program at Campus Walk Apartments.
“I am thrilled to be a member of the Ole Miss community and the Department of Student Housing,” Maten said. “Everyone here has shown an eagerness to acclimate my family to the Oxford community. I am excited and look forward to continuing to build upon the traditions at the University of Mississippi and the achievements of Student Housing.”
